Technology is evolving every day. The newest version of the Ipad will be outdone by the newer Ipad six months from now. Something else will be created soon after and make the latest advancement seem obsolete. With this in mind, it only makes sense that teachers should be evolving as well. A teacher that uses only a textbook and blackboard for teaching is handicapping their self. While they may still be successful with their students, the refusal of a teacher to adapt their teaching style could hurt them from reaching every single student effectively.
As a math teacher, there are many different ways that I inject technology into the classroom for my students. From the very first day, I show students that technology is an integral part of the process of instruction and learning by doing a PowerPoint presentation. In this presentation, I introduce myself using old pictures, show them where I went to school, how I spend my free time, and finally go over the classroom rules and procedures. This way of introducing the students to my classroom tends to make them feel more welcome and engaged versus handing out a couple pages of paper and expecting them to read along with me as I go over the do’s and don’ts of my class.

Above is a short video on why we should use more technology in education.
Below is an example of what I use on the first day of school to introduce my class.

  1. I loved your PowerPoint! It was very personable. I always enjoyed the teachers who shared their personal interests and also had clear expectations about what to expect in class. I agree that the teachers must use technology in the classroom. Teachers who do not utilize technology are handicapping not only themselves but also their students. These students are going out into the world and will be competitive for jobs that involve technology. Technology must be taught in schools.

  2. I agree with you! Technology is always changing and we as teacher need to stay as up to date as possible. I love the personal power point introduction to your students. I think that is a wonderful touch. So many time students only see us one way and forget that we can be cool and fun. I teach prek and ran into one of my students in Walmart. He would not speak to me. He told his mom she is suppose to be at school not here. I think he thought I lived in the school.

  3. I also loved your powerpoint. I like how you use it to help integrate technology into the classroom as well as show your students about yourself. The cartoon is funny! It is so true that we must stay current with technology for our students. We can't be stuck in the past when our children are 21st century learners. The reasons in your video are very true. Thank you for being so informative in your blog to help remind us as educators to incorporate technology into the classrooms.
